If you apply a style to all widgets, then additional styles will merge
with (override) that style, not replace it. So if you apply a style to
all widgets you already get this effect, right - all other styles will
inherit what you set in that default style.

But that's the same thing that happens if you apply a default style to
all widgets in your rc file. Any additional styles applied to the same
widget will be merged in to the default style.
