I don't believe so.  When I first encountered Gtk I was a bit surprised that
the various Gtk[HV]* widgets even existed.  I would have expected their
direct base classes to be concrete widgets with an orientation parameter or
property.  I've been adding a layer of wrapping around PyGtk for a client
and implemented such a solution.
