Rookie questions about the widget curve and GDK

I am a GTK beginner.
I wanted to know if the widget curve works for the option
GTK_CURVE_TYPE_LINEAR

I also wanted to know what i need to put in the arguments of the first
gdk_window_new function that i call...i was confused about who is the
parent when i have not made any windows yet...
