how to create an icon on desktop of xwindow

Hi 
I wrote an executable program, and have to go to 
the text mode to run it (eg. root>./file) 
I just wandering is there a way to create an icon 
on the desktop of Xwindow. So I can just use mouse 
to click this icon instead of using root>./file to 
run it.
