transformations on images (imlib, libart?)

Hi,

me again... just a small question: i'm working with imlib
and gtk, and I want to be able to somehow add up 2 images
(the classical image manipulations I guess). Now imlib-1.9.8
doesn't provide any of such manipulations. Imlib2-0.0.1 
has what I'm looking for, but it's too unstable for me. 
I've read about libart (or libart_lgpl). Do you think
that can help me out? If so, where can I get it? I've only 
found it in the gnome-CVS tree... is there somewhere a ready
to ship tarball?
