Dialog/Window?

Where can I find some information that tells me what each is used for and
how to code them... I arleady know how to do a main window but for setup
dialogs I am not sure how they would work. (Sorry being half asleep kills
one's grammer).  What I am not sure about is ... how do you close them
without closing the entire program? How does one pass data recieved in the
dialog to the main window (ie setup stuffage)...

I know this is a stupid set of questions but I'm pretty much blocking at
this point.
