Please check the GTK FAQ at http://www.gtk.org/faq/ . You probably forgot
to compile with:

  gcc -o foo foo.c `gtk-config --cflags --libs`
                   ^                          ^
                   |                          |
                   +--------------------------+
and mind the back quotes...
