  If you're using Red Hat or Mandrake Linux try the rpm installation
system instead, it's much easier.  
  Use the rpm -U option, to force upgrading to new versions, or even
slicker, use the GUI package manager front end.  
  
  If you're *not* using RH or Mandrake, I feel for you bro, I've been
through the same version-dependency nightmare myself.
