Radio menuitem problems

Hello all.

I use GtkItemFactory to create a menu which contains 7 radiomenuitems.
 I then use gtk_item_factory_get_widget() to get each one of the
radiomenuitems and set the group.  After that, when setting appropriate
radiobuttons as inactive, the callback for that radiobutton is called.
What I want to know is how do I set the state of the radiobuttons
without them triggering the signals and calling the callback?

Also, how can get a state of the check menuitem?
