Installing Gtk+ 1.2.2 on Mandrake

Hi guyz and gals...
I recently installed Linux 5.3 (Mandrake), it comes with GTK 1. something...
I have to remove in order to install 1.2.2.
I simply don't know what package to remove.
-can some on help me?
I would also want to know what file holds the path, so I can include
/usr/local/bin to it.
