text widget and '\a'

Hello, been working on a program that sometimes prints
out '\a' to try and produce a beep. Unfortunately it
seems that whenever I output '\a' it prints a small
circle instead of producing a beep. Is there any way to
make the computer beep instead of printing the \a?
