autogen.sh doesn't work, but it fails differently providing another
clue:

    You must have libtool installed to compile GLib.
    Get ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/libtool-1.2d.tar.gz
    (or a newer version if it is available)

Unfortunately, that URL is incorrect as it means to say
ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/libtool/libtool-1.2d.tar.gz ... and I am
fetching that now.  I will report back if this solves the problem.
