I'm trying to get the gtk-engines snapshot to work with gtk 1.2. I got
the CVS snapshot from gtk.themes.org. It doesn't have a configure script
as specified in the README. No problem, I think: I have autoconf and
automake installed.
But none of autoconf or automake or autogen.sh work. It says:
michael@cog:~/gtk-engines$ ./autogen.sh
I am going to run ./configure with no arguments - if you wish
to pass any to it, please specify them on the ./autogen.sh command line.
aclocal: configure.in: 24: macro `AM_PATH_GTK' not found in library

automake: configure.in: installing `./mkinstalldirs'
automake: configure.in: installing `./missing'
automake: Makefile.am: installing `./INSTALL'
automake: Makefile.am: installing `./COPYING'

./configure: line 524: syntax error near unexpected token
`AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE(gtk-engines,'
./configure: line 524: `AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE(gtk-engines, 0.4)'
Now type 'make' to compile themes
I'm using autoconf version 2.12 and automake version 1.3.
