strange error message

I have two signals set up, one "clicked" (for a button), the other
"delete_event" for when you close the app with the windowmanager.  they
both call the same function, which only contains gtk_main_quit()

I get this error when I click on the button, and when i close the app with
the window manager.  the app is compiled with gtk 1.2.0

Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkmain.c: line 532 (gtk_main_quit): assertion
`main_loops != NULL' failed.

any help appreciated...
