Which lead us to 2^15*2^15*(32/8) = 4GB in 32 bit mode...
This is probably not a limit that you would reach one day :)

I'd like to add that the xpm reader of gtk/gdk is not
imlib - it is (as far as I can see in the source) an
internal handler (you can check gdk/gdkpixmap.c).
