GtkRuler

hi

is there anyone who has improved the GtkRuler so that user defined
Metric's can be registered? i want the ruler to display the position in
an audiofile editor and automatically change "600 seconds" to "10
minutes" etc. also i want it to display current metric, and let it
automatically decide what metric to use depending on the zoom-level
(millseconds, seconds, minutes, hours, days and so on)  currently there
are only 5 zoom levels if i didnt miss it. if nothing has been done yet,
i'll try to improve it on my own
