configure error I possibly previously missed

checking system definitions for POLLIN POLLOUT POLLPRI POLLERR POLLHUP
POLLNVAL... failed
This is from doing a configure --disable-threads with glib 1.2.0
a make after this will see make fail on anything to do with POLL.
Can someone give me a hint as to what glib is looking for here so I can
fix it, by providing the missing files for it.
