1.1.12 & .po 'MAKE'..HELP

I saw this somewhere before, but can't access the archived lists....I'm 
trying to install GTK+ 1.1.12. ./configure goes well, but the 'make' 
fails. The message I get is: 

make all-recursive
make[1]: Entering directory '/packages/source/gtk+-1.1.12'
Making all in po
make[2]: Entering directory '/packages/source/gtk+-1.1.12/po'
make[2]: *** No rule to make target 'deNONE', needed by 'all-yes'. Stop.

make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory '/packages/source/gtk+1.1.12'
make: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
