SGI/Irix & gtk+1.1.15

I would have searched the archives first, but the archive site won't 
respond, so no flames if this has already been covered, please.

I'm doing a little project on an SGI (Irix 5.3, though others running 6.3 
will use it).  I downloaded & installed the 1.0.6 tardist from the 
freeware.sgi.com site, and that works A-OK.  Unfortunately, the 1.1.15 
tarball won't compile!.  glib 1.1.15 compiles & installs OK, but gtk 
barfs when making the gdk libraries with a supposed syntax error in the 
makefile!  Any ideas or suggestions?
