gtk-config and imlib-config really refuses to work.

Hiya.

I'm having troubles compiling stuff.
Really, I can't compile anything at all requiring gtk or imlib.

No, I try not to be the ordinary "Help me compile" moron. This is actually
a rather interesting problem, and I'd love to have it solved.

My gtk and imlib-packages have been installed from a friend, Martin, who's
a great help making rpm-packages from various cvs-servers available.
Things were working nicely, everything he compiled for me worked really
great.

Though, as I tried to compile myself, ./configure would hang at gtk-config
first, reporting problems.
Also, it would report problems at imlib-config.
I found out what it was, and run them manually.
They worked, and reported an ok version-number.

Yes, I've cleaned the hd from other gtk-config's, the only one available
now is the one in /usr/bin.
It works.
But, even with "--with-gtk-prefix=/usr", configure won't report an ok
version of gtk.
Just sometimes.
And imlib-config should work (it does when I try it manually), and I
really can't understand how configure can get it to report anything else
than an ok version!

I've tried setting variables, run configure with flags, but _nothing_
seems to work.
Stuff Martin compiles for me works.
I've got the same version of autoconf and automake as Martin has.
Anything more I haven't thought of?.

Ok, I know that I could try to compile gtk by myself, friends have
reported thet to work...
But, considering future upgrades, I'd prefer to solve this problem. After
all, this is not Windwos, problems should be able to solve, right?!

Anyone got a suggestion or experiences similar problems with bad-behaviour
config scripts? (yes, I've tried searching them for incorrect, statically
set paths)
I'd love to listen.

Thanks for your time.
