the problem when building gimp

Hi, 

I encounter the following configure error when building gimp-1.1.1.
"checking for GTK - version >= 1.1.13... 7999:./conftest: /sbin/loader:
Error: Unresolved symbol in /usr/local/lib/libgtk-1.1.so: dgettext
7999:./conftest: /sbin/loader: Fatal Error: this executable has
unresolvable symbols
"
The gtk-1.1.13 and glib-1.1.13 have been installed successful. My box is
Digital Unix V4.0d and  I use gcc-2.8.1. I have installed gnu gettext.
