Best tool ?

Hi,

Maybe it's not the best list for this: the only relationship with the
list is that I'll use these programs for testing and eventually
packaging gtk (and VDK) programs. I need a good memory checker and an
easy way to compile my programs/libs on different platforms. I have on
my Debian CD several programs but I do not know which is the best. I'd
like to hear some opinions about them, if possible.

Here's what I found for memory checking:
- checker
- ccmaloc
- electric-fence
My programs are and will be in C++.

For distribution:
- automake
- autoconf
- libtool

What should I use for documenting (making man pages, info and/or html
docs) ?
