Re: [gtk-list] Announce: Fulcrum project (was Re: Plotting widget?)

Dear GTK'ers

                           F U L C R U M
                           -------------

This is the announcement of a project to develop a useful, fast,
full-featured (in that order) scientific analysis and plotting tool.

This project aims to leverage existing software technologies to accomplish
this goal wherever possible. So far it uses the interpreted C-like matrix
language yorick to provide a high-quality numerical engine, the GNU
plotutils library for onscreen drawing and Postscript printing, as well as
the GTK windows toolkit.

Fulcrum will provide interactive and scriptable plotting in 2D and also
later in 3D.

Status: Development has just started, but the project team (me) is very
enthusiastic about rapid progress <grin :->

See the (10-minute old) Fulcrum project homepage at
http://public.surfree.com/conradsteenberg for more details.

The preliminary Fulcrum source code has been tested to work on Linux/x86 and
Linux/alpha 2.0.x and 2.1.12x. Earlier versions have been tested on
Solaris/Sparc 2.6. It works with Gtk 1.0 and 1.1 versions.

Sincerely

Fulcrum Project Team
