annoying arrows in text widget

I was wondering... Is there any easy way to prevent those curly arrows
from being displayed in the text widget?

No-one needs visual confirmation that a word wrapped, and anyway, it makes
my program look very ugly having those arrows all over the place.

BTW, I'd prefer not to have to write my own version of the text widget by
modifying the code of the original.  For me, that'd just be an invitation
for disaster.  :-)
