A question about spinbutton

I need to connect a function to spinbutton that inserts the next or
previous valid value, depending on which button were pressed, the up
arrow or the down arrow.

So, how do I prevent the next or previous value being inserted
automatically and how do I detect which button were pressed, so I can
do the proper action ?
