All you need it glib, gtk+, imlib (I will add this to gtk.t.o) and
gtk-engines. The gtkrc file goes wherever the application will look for
it. For example Gimp 1.1 looks for it in ~/.gimp-1.1

Gnome-Libs is no needed.

As far as that engine error that some people are getting, the reason is as
follows:

The program is loading an old GTK library that doesnt understand the
engine command which is part of the gtkrc file for a theme. You need to
either remove the old library (Run ldconfig -v to see a list of libs on
your system) or recompile the program and make sure it links to the new
libraries.
