If you're running RH 5.0, it does come with an older version of gtk
pre-installed (pre 1.0).  What you'll need to do is prepend the following
line to /etc/ld.so.conf:

/usr/local/lib

and then run ldconfig (you can run it with -v to make sure the new gtk
libraries are being found).

Then try configuring imlib again.
