Slight mailing list modification to preserver "References:"?

This is one of the few mailing lists where threads are almost always
broken in my MUA (Gnus).  I poked around, and it looks like it's
partially because the list server is deleting "References:" headers
whenever it finds them.

Would it be possible to reconfigure the list server to leave these in?
I, at least, would really appreciate it.
