keyboard navigation in menus with gtk

I haven't seen any gtk application with keyboard menu navigation (For
example, alt-f opens file menu, arrow keys move to the next menu/up
and down within the current menu). Why?
Another stupid question? Why text widget does not follow the emacs
convention: alt-del delete forward word, alt-backspace delete backward
word, but uses ctrl-del and ctrl-backspace instead?
