Change colour on n'th column in Clist

Is it possible to change the colour of the background / foreground for
the n'th ( e.g the second third etc) column. The tutorial talks about
doing this for rows, but not columns.
If not available in gtk-1.0.4 will it be in gtk-1.1 ?
