GTK 1.0.4 installation problem.

Hi,

Sorry to bother you with a newbie question. I am just wondering if you
can help me with the
installation problem of GTK 1.0.4. (http://www.gtk.org/)

After gunzip and untar the file, according to the INSTALL instruction, I
run
./configure. Everything seems fine until a line where it says

    configure: error:
    *** X libraries or include files not found. Check 'config.log' for
    *** more details.

Do I need to download X libraries? Somehow, the installation process
will
not go on so I am stucked.

My system is running RedHat5.1(2.0.34)
