The beginnings of a Gtk spell checker are in gnome-libs/libgnomeui.
It is a wrapper for ispell.  It could use some work.

It looks ok for "batch"-style use.  However, I'd like to see something
that would also work for interactive use -- correct or at least
highlight misspelled words as I type.  This requires a different
design, probably.
