gtk on SuSe 5.2 problems

hello all,
i'd just got a gimp software set and i had to install the gtk 1.04 first on my
suse linux 5.2. I gave my x include and lib directories to the ./configure
process on the command line, and cofigure went ok,
but when compiling i had errors which told me that file or directory
X11/Xatom.h
and more files like that arent existing...but i got a running xwindow system.
any help for that?
i include the error report of the make
