Horizontal Scrolling in Text widgets?

I just ran into a problem and noticed that horizontal scrolling doesn't work
(read
that as not implemented..).  Is there any particular reason for this?  I
searched
through all of the mailing-list back-issues and didn't find anything that
addressed
this particular item.  This is not a show-stopper, but would be nice to get
working
sometime.. Just curious..
