IRC client

has anyone started a GTK IRC client yet?  I have dabbled in GTK 
(last summer/fall) and would like to learn it more in depth.  I currently 
use Zircon as an irc client, however I find it takes quite a bit of memory, 
and being tcl/tk based it is quite slow on occasion

any advice/recommendations would be appreciated
