gtk_rc_parse ()

Shouldn't gtk_rc_parse () affect all the widgets throughout the 
entire program? (i.e. widget_class "*GtkText" style "text", where 
"text" is previously defined)  It doesn't seem to affect the text 
widget in my program at all.  How can I get it to affect the style
of the text widget?
