gdk_window_add_colormap_windows

I asked this earlier but have a little bit more info now..

I'm getting the following error when i try to open a color selection
box or the style panel in glade.

Gdk-ERROR **: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
  serial 1609 error_code 8 request_code 2 minor_code 0

It's occuring in gdk_window_add_colormap_windows
the second time through the function
and dies when it hits:
  if (!XGetWMColormapWindows (toplevel_private->xdisplay,
			      toplevel_private->xwindow,
			      &old_windows, &count))
    {

This is on Irix 6.5.2

Any help would be greatly apprectiated.
