I have adopted the convention that everything that doesn't
come in my distribution and I install myself will go either
in /opt or /usr/local, otherwise I might forget it is there
at all :-) For GTK applications I use /usr/local/share/ for
the data stuff, /usr/local/lib for library stuff and
~/.APPRC for any user configuration file and... ~/gtk-apprc
for the parser RC files (gtkrc stuff). Of course that is
what I use and everybody thinks in a different way.
