Arabic Language Support

Hey guys,

Linux is getting to everywhere, also the orient starts to get fascinated
by the power of linux. The only barrier we still have is the arabic
support in linux and it's applications. Iam not sure if I am asking the
right list, but i am asking everywhere anyways, so my question: How
difficult is it to get support let's say for BiDi and languages like
arabic and hebrew in a library like gtk or similar libraries.

what is the status of unicode support and support for non-latin languages
like the thos mentioned above?
