Hi !
I just realized that there is still something that I would consider a
major weakness in the size determination part of some widgets.
One of the main advantages I think the GTK+ has over other toolkits
(especially those as XView) is it's relative size/positioning
thing. You give it rules and it resizes the widgets to fit the screen
as good as possible with the given properties (like fonts).
The thing I am missing (and that would be logically to have for a
toolkit like GTK+) is a resizing option based on a number of
characters (using the font that this widget has right now). This would
be extremely useful for widgets like:
o GtkText
o GtkCList (& GtkList, of course)
o GtkEntry
o GtkButton
and some others. Practically it'd be a good idea to define a general
function like gtk_widget_set_usize_charb[ased] (or something like
that) and of course the special functions like
gtk_clist_set_column_width_charb...
I have made the experience that having this would be *extremely*
useful and I think it will probably be relatively easy to do.
Comments ?
Later,
Georg
