Looks like bool was added to the global perl typemap after 5.003.
You could either upgrade to the current 5.004_04, or add the following
lines to the file 'typemap' in the Gtk-0.1.9 directory:

# near the top:
bool			T_BOOL

# in the INPUT section
T_BOOL
	$var = (int)SvIV($arg)

# in the OUTPUT section
T_BOOL
	$arg = boolSV($var);
