Button behaviour

Hello,

 GTK is a great toolkit, though there's one thing I don't like about
buttons: when you press space or enter to activate the default button,
it emits the "pressed" signal, but it does not change its state 
visually, i.e. I don't see it pressed on the screen. Is there a 
particulat reason for this and is it hard to fix (?) that?
