Then my original problem reappears,
Where / when did you report your original problem? I couldn't find any
reference about why I made the initial commit to begin with. I assumed that I
just thought we need the same logic that we have in the pangocairo-fc backend
in other backends too. I don't remember that commit having been based on any
actual report.
Kris, can you check the OS X backend and fix if needed? Don't know about
win32, any volunteers?

at least on Mac (I can't test on Windows).
If I set CTM to (1/2)*unit_matrix, then an extra factor of 1/2 is mysteriously
applied "somewhere" in the library and the fontsize is scaled not by 1/2
but by 1/4=(1/2)*(1/2).
