AFAIK Pango doesn't currently support that. And PangoFT2 is obsolete as far
as I'm concerned...

Okay, It does impact the resolution.
What I meant is that the effect is observed only when I change the
Y-resolution (dpi_y).
Moreover, the value passed in dpi_y impacts both the x-resolution and the
y-resolution. This behaviour seems wrong and is illustrated in the attached
output images and sample code. ( 72_140.bmp means dpi_x=72 and dpi_y=140 )
Can you tell me how do I modify only the X resolution (without impacting Y
resolution at all)?
It seems that it has something to do with FT_Set_Char_Size() statement in
pangoft2.c

What do you mean by this exactly?
The "resolution" is only used when converting from font size in points to font
size in pixels.
