Well, on Linux the locations where to install is determined at
configure time. This is normal on Linux.
However, in some cases one would want relocatability also on Linux. It
is possible to read /proc/self/maps looking for a shared library with
the appropriate basename, for instance. See also
http://autopackage.org/docs/binreloc/ for an already designed
implementation of relocatability support in general on Linux.
