compiling gtk+-2.2.1

Hii
 I am upgrading the gtk (which is available with RH 8.0) to gtk+-2.2.1. After completing the make and make install,  While starting the gnome-session, I got the following error.

gnome-session: relocation error: /usr/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_get_application_name

This lib is linked with the lib which is currently created as follows
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           25 Jun 10 17:55 /usr/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0 -> libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0.200.1

What should I do ?
