Pango & printing?

This problem can up recently in Dia development: What is the best way to
print ([E]PS) with Pango? I would expect to dump at least the relevant
parts of the fonts used into the PS file, but PAPS seemingly just dumps PS
drawing primitives. Don't we lose a lot of useful information when we go
from a font to drawing primitives? Useful information including: Font
name & style, ability to have the font defined only once when including
multiple PS files, ability to tell what is text in the PS file, and hinting
information.
