testtext

When I use testtext to open a utf-8 text file, all non-Latin text is being 
displayed as Unicode escape sequences, even though it displays correctly in 
the Example text, and in the other GTK and Pango demos. Is this a problem 
with testtext, or have I built something incorrectly?

Another strange problem: navigating through directories in the "Open" 
dialog doesn't seem to work reliably; it often doesn't show all the 
directories and files in a particular directory...

Are these know problems, or have I built something incorrectly?

I'm using RedHat 7.2.
