pango problem

I just tried upgrading the app I'm working on from using pango 0.25 to pango 
1.0.3. None of either the application code, nor the environment has changed 
(I merely relinked against the new libraries) however, no text is displayed 
at all with the new libraries. I'm using just the truetype renderer (via 
pango_ft2_render_layout()). Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong or 
even where to start debugging this?

I'm also having a problem (with the 0.25 libraries) of truetype fonts 
occasionally rendering at about 10% larger than normal (same font, same code, 
once it starts doing so it stays that way until the app is restarted). That 
may be in my code however, I just thought I'd mention it in case anyone's 
come across something similar.
