I changed the order to be "pangox pangoxft" and the build seems to be
working. (it's still running, but has gone way past the error I was getting :-)

I haven't seen a problem... weird. --disable-qt is always an option.
Again, this is a guess, since I don't see this error on the 7.2 system. I
haven't looked at it in detail yet.
Just did "rpm -qi qt" on both systems, the 7.2 system has qt version 2.3.1
and the 7.3 system has qt version 3.0.3. Since it's a different major
version number, I'm more inclined to guess that this is the problem. I
suspect I'll just disable it for now...
